This method consists of inhaling a gaseous mixture of nitrous oxyde and oxygen. This mixture, also known as laughing gas, is delivered through a mask that is placed on the patient’s nose. The gas acts rapidly and leaves you feeling in a more euphoric and relaxed state. Once the dental treatment is over, oxygen is delivered to the patient for a few minutes and all traces of the laughing gas are eliminated from the body. Conscious sedation using nitrous oxyde allows patients who are anxious about receiving dental work to undergo their treatments with ease, peace of mind, and very little post-operative down time.
